They often tell you that 35 mm on crop is roughly similar to 50 mm lens on full frame.
Well its true to a certain extent, that it offers a field of view around 50 mm on dx
Multiplying the Crop Factors we get
35 mm on Canon crop body = (35 * 1.6 = 56 mm)
35 mm on Nikon crop body = (35 * 1.5= 52.5 mm)
So does that mean you would get similar results with the following
50 mm f 1.8 on a full frame body and a 35 mm 1.8 on a crop body.
Well the answer is No, most of us buying a crop body do not consider the following math.
35 1.8 at 100 iso on a crop body becomes the following in full frame body
Canon - 56 mm f 2.88 Iso 200
Nikon - 52.5 mm f 2.7 Iso 200
The crop factor gets multiplied on to the focal length of the lens, aperture
and the Iso.
Budget Prime lenses to buy on a crop body.
50 mm on a crop body is an excellent option and lets you do a lot of things. Its good for potraits, street photography. It teaches you the art of composing the frame.

Both Nikon and Canon Offer better options for the focal points however I have only discussed the
cheapest options.

1)35 mm - If you are a Nikon user using Camera body in the Nikon 3000 and 5000 line up consider the Nikon 35 1.8 g.If you are using Nikon-D90/D7000/D7100/D7200/D500-consider the above or buy Nikon 35 f2 D ( this will cost you twice the amount of 1.8g) but definately sharper at f2. If you are Canon shooter you can opt for Canon EF 35 f 2 IS USM lens (but its a costly option) if you are on a tight budget consider the EF-S 24 f/2.8 lens which is much cheaper.
2) 50 mm - This is focal length I personally think everyone should own. If you are a Nikon user using Camera body in the Nikon 3000 and 5000 line up consider the Nikon 50 1.8g (the cheapest option for the body). If you are using Nikon-D90/D7000/D7100/D7200/D500-consider the above or buy Nikon 50 f 1.8D (which would be a bit cheaper than the G variant). Canon EF 50 1.8(cheapest variant) for all Canon crops.
Shots with D7000 & 50 1.8d
3) 85 mm - This is definately the last lens you want to buy out of the three. It requires you to have steady hands to operate in very low light. There is no vibration control. You need good space from your subject.
If you are a Nikon user using Camera body in the Nikon 3000 and 5000 line up consider the Nikon 85 1.8g (the cheapest option for the body).D90/D7000/D7100/D7200/D500-users may consider the above or buy Nikon 85 1.8D (which would be a bit cheaper than the G variant). The Canon Canon EF 85 f/1.8 USM is the cheapest option.
85 focal length is roughly 130 mm with the crop factor. It offers best Bokeh out of the three and is great for potraits.
